Forza Motorsport is the third highest-rated Xbox exclusive game of 2023 – WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews

Reviews for Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport have started to cross the finishing line ahead of the game’s launch next week on October 10th. Microsoft have a lot riding on this one as they’ve really been languishing on the software side and Forza is one of their biggest IP, so I have no doubt they’ll be hoping for some impressive review scores.

Unfortunately, Forza Motorsport isn’t quite shaping up as a contender for the top spot on the podium, although it is far from a failure, either. Opencritic currently has the game at a ‘Strong’ rating of 82 from 65 different reviews.

This means that Forza Motorsport is currently the third highest-rated Xbox exclusive of 2023. The top spot is held by Hi-Fi Rush which launched in January and holds a score of 89. Second place goes to Starfield which sits at 86. Meanwhile, Forza Horizon 5 sits with an Opencritic score of 92, though it launched back in 2021.

It also means that Forza Motorsport’s competition on PlayStation, Gran Turismo, is currently beating it by 7 points. It has a score of 87 on Opencritic.

Of course, audience reception, sales and players are the most valuable metric. Forza Motorsport will be on Game Pass on day one, and will undoubtedly attract millions of players. And since it is intended to be a platform with new content added over time, it’s hard to gauge just how well it will from reviews alone.

Eurogamer’s review noted the heavy emphasis the game places on keeping people around for a long time to come. Josh Wise opted to wrap up his review by talking about that very subject: “the idea is that Forza Motorsport is something that you install not just onto your Xbox (with its storage-busting 130GB) but onto your life – to be studied and picked away at in the months and years ahead. Whether that sounds like a weight or a welcome invitation will depend on your sensibility. For Turn 10, cars and life are inextricable, worthy of each other, and deserving of a tribute such as this.”

Luke Reilly has become famed for his reviews of racing games at IGN and gained himself a superb reputation. He awarded Forza Motorsport an 8 out of 10. He concluded:After six long years, Forza Motorsport is off the lift and back in our lives. It looks great, feels great, sounds great, and it’s brought with it the most impressive multiplayer we’ve seen in the series so far. With 500 cars and 20 track locations it’s hardly a small start but, now positioned as a platform, Forza Motorsport has the potential to expand into a seriously rich racing destination over the coming years. If Flight Simulator on four wheels is the plan, I’m here for it”

Karak of ACG was a tad more restrained in his praise. In particular, he wasn’t a fan of the progression system and felt the game was lacking on content, perhaps so the developers can slowly release it over the coming months and years. In the end, he suggests waiting to get it on sale
