It looks like the Borderlands movie will be available to stream this month – WGB

The Borderlands movie looks set to hit streaming services as early as this month, if numerous reports are to be believed.

Presumably because of how badly it flopped in cinemas, drawing in a paltry $14 million on its opening weekend, the Borderlands movie is apparently going to be available to stream on August 30th. Lionsgate hasn’t said anything officially, but multiple sites (The Hollywood Handle, Screen Time, When to Stream) are all listing the 30th of August as its expected arrival date.

While the time between a movie releasing in cinemas and then becoming available on streaming has drastically shrunk over the years, especially thanks to COVID, it’s unusual to see a movie make the jump in such a short period. Borderlands released on August 9th, meaning its streaming debut would be just 3 weeks after arriving on the silver screen.

Despicable Me 4, for example, came out at the beginning of June and is also listed as arriving on streaming at the end of this month. However, it also made oodles of money in the cinema.

While this is speculation, the reason for Borderlands becoming available to stream so quickly is likely because of how poorly it performed at the box office. Lionsgate will likely be hoping that it can find more success on streaming platforms. And honestly, it might work. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m kind of morbidly curious to see if it’s as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

If nothing else, the Borderlands movie has driven me back to the games. I’m currently working through Borderlands 3 again. Why not go check out my ranking of the series, where you can tell me exactly how bad my opinion is?
