Next week, Paradox Interactive will launch Cities: Skylines 2 on PC and PC Game Pass with console versions to come next year. For fans of the city-building genre, it’s a pretty big deal as the first Cities: Skylines is considered one of the best examples of the genre ever. However, Paradox has issued a statement suggesting that the game’s performance may not quite be up to scratch.

Speaking on their official forum, Paradox had this to say: “On another note, we’ve noticed the concerns raised about Cities: Skylines II performance, especially after our previous statement with raised minimum and recommended specs. As we’ve always believed in transparency, we’d like to further shed some light on the current state of the build.

Cities: Skylines II is a next-gen title, and naturally, it demands certain hardware requirements. With that said, while our team has worked tirelessly to deliver the best experience possible, we have not achieved the benchmark we targeted.”

One might understandably think that delaying the game would be the answer but Paradox say they believe releasing it is the way to go.

“We will continually improve the game over the coming months, but we also want to manage expectations on performance for the coming release. Our ambition is for Cities: Skylines II to be enjoyed by as many players as possible, and we’re committed to ensuring it reaches its full potential,” said Paradox.

While it’s certainly nice to see Paradox being transparent about the issues that the game may face when it launches, the cynical side of me sees this as a company openly stating that they are launching a game that doesn’t meet their own targets but that they still expect people to pay $50 for. But maybe I’m being too harsh.
