Monster Hunter Rise Revealed For Nintendo Switch

A brand-new Monster Hunter is coming to Switch. During a Nintendo Direct Mini, the company premiered the trailer for Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise. It’s coming March 26, 2021 alongside its own set of Amiibo figures.

A trailer showed the hero using grapple points to navigate around the open world and facing a series of fearsome beasts. You have a dog or wolf-like companion that you can use as a mount, and the characters were notably heard with English voiceover. An elder character warns of a calamity from a monster called Magnamalo, which appears to be the big-bad of this Monster Hunter.

Capcom promises a “story-based RPG experience” where you assume control of a new Monster Rider. You’ll be able to play the game alone or in four-player co-op either online or locally.

While we don’t know a whole lot more yet, a Capcom community manager confirmed a fan’s suspicion that Monster Hunter Rise runs on the RE Engine, the same engine that debuted with Resident Evil 7.

Monster Hunter has gotten much more widespread recognition in the last few years thanks to the acclaimed Monster Hunter World, but Nintendo Switch has only received an enhanced port, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. It was fairly well-received but didn’t include any of the quality-of-life enhancements that seem to have made World such a hit.
