Star Wars: Everything We Know About Every Upcoming Movie And Show
For a short time in 2018, it looked like Star Wars fans would have a long wait before they had any new on-screen adventures to watch. The commercial disappointment of the spin-off movie Solo: A Star Wars Story led Disney boss Bob Iger to admit that the studio had released too many films too quickly, and that the whole franchise would be taking a break after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019 to reassess its priorities. Thankfully for fans, this hiatus didn’t last long.
The launch of Disney+ changed the future of the long-running franchise. While expensive standalone spin-off movies such as Rogue One and Solo are seemingly off the table for the time being, Lucasfilm and Disney have clearly realised that streaming is the perfect place for these stories. Disney+ launched with The Mandalorian, which proved far less divisive amongst fans than either The Last Jedi or The Rise of Skywalker. Showrunner Jon Favreau’s skillful blending of the familiar and the new has helped ensure a healthy future for this venerable franchise on the small screen.
With the dust having settled on the Skywalker Saga, a number of new Star Wars projects have been reported over the past few months. Shows that have been in the works for a while have had new creative talent join them, while exciting new names have been added to the roster of filmmakers working within the franchise. This doesn’t mean that every project will ultimately be made, but whatever happens, Lucasfilm has assembled an interesting and diverse collection of writers and directors to work on new ideas.
It will be interesting to see if the focus returns to the big screen, or if Disney+ is now the true home for the franchise. But either way, there should be plenty of exciting galactic action heading our way over the next few years. So here’s everything we know so far about every Star Wars movie and show that’s in the works.
